    Luggage storage in Essaouira

A counter marked « consigne » at the bus station, around 5 MAD. But if you come from Marrakech, better to leave your bags there.

MC Consigne has no drop-off point in this city yet. This page lists the solutions that actually exist on the ground.

Where can you store luggage in Essaouira?

In Essaouira the most reliable option is the counter marked « consigne » at the bus station on Avenue du Deuxième-Mars, at around 5 MAD per bag. CTM will also hold luggage, but in principle only for passengers already holding a departure ticket, and the Supratours station offers no such service. One point is worth making straight away: most visitors come on a round trip from Marrakech, two to three hours by coach — in which case the simplest answer is not to bring the suitcases at all. MC Consigne has no drop-off point in Essaouira; we have two in Marrakech.

    Practical distances

Distances, durations and constraints checked on site — enough to plan a day without luggage.

The real options, and what they don't cover

What exists on the ground today, with the limitation of each solution.

The « consigne » counter at the bus station

Essaouira's bus station, on Avenue du Deuxième-Mars, has an office explicitly marked « consigne ». It is the only clearly identified bag-minding service in town, at around 5 MAD per bag, and travellers describe it as continuously accessible. It is about a ten-minute walk from the medina ramparts, which makes it a workable base for a day in town.

    What it doesn't cover

It is a bus-station counter: no booking, no insurance, no itemised receipt. The round-the-clock access is traveller-reported rather than guaranteed — check the collection cut-off when you drop your bags, particularly if you plan to leave late.

CTM: yes, but with a ticket

As in most Moroccan cities, the CTM office in Essaouira will hold luggage. The logic, though, is pre-departure check-in rather than open left luggage: the service is in principle reserved for passengers who have already booked a journey out of Essaouira.

    What it doesn't cover

Without a ticket you may simply be turned away, and nothing tells you in advance. If you are leaving with another company or by shared taxi, do not build your day around it.

The Supratours station: well placed, but no storage

Supratours runs the most frequent link from Marrakech, with several departures a day, and its Essaouira station has one real advantage: it is closer to the medina than CTM's. It does not, however, offer a bag-minding service — the coaches' secure holds only cover the journey itself.

    What it doesn't cover

Turning up at Supratours expecting to drop your bags is a common mistake. You then have to make your way to the Avenue du Deuxième-Mars bus station, which means another trip with the luggage in tow.

    Your riad inside the medina

Essaouira's medina is compact, flat and far easier to walk than those of Fez or Marrakech: riads are minutes from the gates, and most will keep guests' bags before arrival and after check-out. For a one- or two-night stay, that is almost always the best option.

    What it doesn't cover

Guests only. And if your return coach leaves in the evening while you check out in the morning, give notice the day before: small guesthouses do not always have someone on the desk continuously.

    Frequently asked questions

What travellers actually ask about this city.

Is there luggage storage in Essaouira?

    +

Yes: an office marked « consigne » at the bus station on Avenue du Deuxième-Mars, at around 5 MAD per bag. It is the only clearly identified bag-minding service in town.

Can I leave my bags at the Supratours station?

    +

No. Supratours carries luggage in the hold during the journey but has no storage in Essaouira. Its station is, however, the closest to the medina, which makes it the best arrival point — not the best drop-off point.

Will CTM hold bags without a ticket?

    +

In principle no. The drop-off is treated as pre-departure check-in and assumes a booking out of Essaouira. Without a ticket you may be refused: better to fall back on the bus-station counter.

I am coming from Marrakech for the day: what do I do with my suitcases?

    +

Do not bring them. The trip is 2.5 to 3 h each way, and hauling suitcases for a day in Essaouira serves no purpose. Leave them in Marrakech and collect them on the way back: our Guéliz point is minutes from Marrakech bus station, open until 9:30pm.

Can you manage the Essaouira medina with a suitcase?

    +

More easily than elsewhere in Morocco: it is small, flat and easy to orient yourself in. But it is still cobbled, and the lanes fill up late in the day. For a few hundred metres to a riad it is manageable; for a day of sightseeing, no.

Is there storage at Essaouira-Mogador airport?

    +

No such service is reported there. It is a very small airport with few flights and no storage facility: sort out your drop-off in town before heading there.

    Are the rates quoted official?

    +

No. The 5 MAD per bag comes from traveller reports, not a published rate card. Treat it as an order of magnitude and confirm at the counter, asking for the collection cut-off at the same time.

Will MC Consigne open in Essaouira?

    +

We are looking at it, with no date announced. Essaouira is a special case: most visitors arrive from Marrakech, where we already are — the need is often solved at the departure end rather than on arrival. Sign up below if you think otherwise; that signal is what decides.
